Invasive Weed Field Practicum
All day in Arlington
This is a brand-new program developed in response to numerous requests for more hands-on education that focuses in depth on the how of invasive species control. This all-day practicum will look at a broad range of control strategies, both organic and non-organic. With help from state and local weed specialists, you will learn and practice pulling, mowing, weed wrenching, sheet mulching, frilling, cut stump treatments, stem injection, and foliar sprays. You will also learn about safety and protective gear, weed and pesticide laws, herbicide selection, tank mixing procedures, and cleanup and disposal of both weeds and herbicides. Specific weeds we will address include reed canary grass, blackberries, ivy, holly, Scotch broom, knotweed, butterfly bush, and tansy ragwort. Location is right off of I-5 on Stanwood-Bryant Rd near Arlington. Regular price is $30 before 10/1 and $40 thereafter; Master Gardeners can attend for $20 but must contact Kevin Zobrist at kevin.zobrist@wsu.edu no later than close of business on Tuesday 10/4.
